Thomas Arthur Barnes

August 6, 1946 — June 14, 2005

BARNES, Thomas Arthur, “Pinky”, age 58, went home to be with his Lord and Savior June 14, 2005, after his second courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of Arthur and the late Lucile Barnes, and is survived by his soul mate and wife, Kate (Geiger); son, Clay (Lori) Barnes and daughter, Lyndsay Hohne; grandson, Stephen Barnes; stepsons, CJ, Scott and Pete Yuppa; sisters, Sylvia (Ted Caudill) Barnes and Pat (George) Hadler; in-laws, Bill and Jean Geiger, Nikki (Collins) Geiger-Griffith, Maria (Larry) Suttman, and Heidi Geiger; extended family members, Gaye and Bob Lovett; nephews, Paul Signorelli and Bill Hadler; nieces, Jenna Andersen, Lynette Kovacevich, Katie Signorelli, Jessica and Becca Hadler; and close friends, Gary Gonella and Antonio Moncrief. A special thanks to all of his sweet care-giving angels, especially Tawny, Connie, Melody, Karen and Jenna. Tom was an integral part of Alcoholics Anonymous in Dayton, having celebrated 15 years of sobriety on June 12, 2005. His life’s passion was to help others achieve and maintain sobriety, and his message and example were a tremendous inspiration to countless numbers of men and women. In addition he was an active member of Ginghamsburg Church, where he was a leader of its 12 Step Recovery Program and co-founder of the motorcycle ministry; additionally he served as the chaplain for Dayton’s Chapter Eleven of Rolling Thunder, a motorcycle-based outreach program serving veterans. Tom was born in Dayton on August 6, 1946, and later graduated in 1965 from Watkins Memorial High School in Pataskala, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army in 1967-1968, attaining the rank of Sgt. First Class. Early on, Tom was a real estate broker and member of the Million Dollar Club. Later he was a general contractor, and went on to specialize in tile and granite installations with his company, Tom Barnes & Sons, Inc. He loved nature and all of God’s creatures. He was very humble, giving and intuitive, and saw the value and potential in every person he met. Family will receive friends Friday, June 17, 2005 from 1-3:00 PM and 5-9:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering. Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at Ginghamsburg Church, 6759 S. County Road 25, Tipp City with Pastor Mike Slaughter officiating. Interment immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton. In memory of Tom, contributions may be made to the Tom Barnes Memorial Fund, c/o Bank One, 2800 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH 45419, or the charity of your choice. Remember this: “I can’t, God can.
