FERRIS, Thomas, age 83, of Beavercreek, formerly of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014. He was born on January 21, 1931 in St. Mary's, OH to the late William and Johanna Ferris.
Thomas served during the Korean War as a Sp4 for the United States Army. He was an officer for the American Welding Society and was the top volunteer for the Shepherd Center, in Wintston-Salem, NC. He worked for Westinghouse and Hobart. Thomas was a gentle soul who enjoyed a preprandial libation and had a way with words. Through simple acts of kindness Tom built a life of meaning and purpose.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Thornsburg; brother, Bill Ferris; and sisters, Joan Minardi and Mary Ferris. Thomas is survived by his sister, Ruth Gianola; and 31 nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Laurie and Mike for opening up their home and their hearts these last 2 years.
Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Drive, Kettering.
In lieu of flowers, donations maybe be made to the Shepherd Center, 1700 Ebert Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Noah Home, 12526 Campo Rd., Spring Valley, CA 91978-2329.
