Thomas William Hoog

HOOG, Thomas William, age 73, of Kettering, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Hospice of Dayton. Tom was born August 8, 1941, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Herbert C. and Evelyn (Staub) Hoog. Tom graduated from duPont Manual High School class of 1959 in Louisville, Kentucky. He received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Louisville in 1964 and a master of science in engineering management from the University of Dayton in 1972. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968. He then worked as a civilian engineer for 32 years at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, receiving several honors for his work. After retirement, he worked for 10 years as a consultant for Dayton Aerospace. Tom enjoyed sports, music, and photographing Ohio's covered bridges. He played trumpet in the marching bands of both high school and college. He volunteered his services for WDPR and the youth programs of the Kettering YMCA, and was a member of Harmony Creek Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jane; children, David (Susan) Hoog of PA and Ann (Scott Whipple) Hoog of Washington, DC; grandchildren, Benji, Nina, William, Katy, and Ray; sisters, Donna (Dick) Rose of LA and Trudy (Steve) Kimble of KY; brother, Gary Hoog of FL; father-in-law, Dr. S.W. Mather of KY; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Family will greet friends on Friday, February 6, from 4-7 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Graveside service will be held Saturday at noon at David's Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Road, Kettering. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Tom's memory be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420 or the Alzheimer's Association Miami Valley Chapter, 31 W. Whipp Rd., Centerville, OH 45459.
