KENDELL, Thomas W., age 72 of Oakwood, passed away Saturday, February 19th, 2011 at The Hospice of Dayton, surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born in Dayton, on June 20, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. H. Worley Kendell and Norma Troy Kendell, and his eldest brother James Kendell.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Christy; his devoted younger brother and business partner, Bill Kendell and half-brother Craig Kendell; son Dr. Steven Kendell; daughters Kathryn Kendell and Kimberly (Keith) Powell; and beloved grandsons Buckley Powell, Bowen Powell, Christian Powell and twins Thomas and Timothy Hutchins.
Tom graduated from Bradley University, with a degree in Construction Engineering and was a supportive member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He taught gunnery in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox.
Tom founded and served as president of Kendell Construction Co., helping to build many of Greater Dayton's commercial buildings. He was a former board member of Micro Devices, which was later purchased by Emerson Electric. He loved working alongside his best friend and brother Bill and considered his colleagues like family.
Tom mostly enjoyed spending long summers at Lake Cumberland with his family and fishing trips with his friends.
A memorial service is being held in his honor on Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 at 4:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oakwood with a reception at Dayton Country Club immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tom's name may be made to The Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
