Vera Jane Mayne

MAYNE, Vera Jane Susannah, age 105, of Kettering, entered into her heavenly home Monday, February 28, 2011. Vera was born in Johnsville, Ohio on October 7, 1905. Her parents were Courtney and Gertrude (Curtis) Tobias. Vera was a charter member of Centerville Grace Brethren Church. After the passing of her first husband, Frank Pacey, she operated his wholesale produce company. She then had a retail fruit stand in the Central Market House in downtown Dayton until 1950. In 1942, Vera married Calvin Mayne, and was there to support him when he and his partner, Frank Sakada, started Dorothy Lane Market. In 1955, it was Vera's idea to launch the Good Neighbor Program at Dorothy Lane Market where over the years the company has contributed millions of dollars to local non-profit organizations. After Calvin's passing in 1972, Vera became president of the company until her retirement in 2005 at the age of 100. Vera was a member of the Engineers Club, President of the One by One Bible Club and a proud supporter of the Dayton Opera Guild. Preceded in death by her parents, Courtney and Gertrude (Curtis) Tobias, her husbands, Frank Pacey, Sr., and Calvin D. Mayne, son Frank Pacey, Jr., daughter Vera T. Pacey, stepdaughter Ida Mantia, grandson Matthew Courtney Mayne, brothers Franklin Tobias and Curtis Tobias, and son-in-law Everett B. Chambers. Vera is survived by her children, Angela Pacey of Centerville, Charline Chambers of Wisconsin, Mary (Wesley) Hieb of Centerville, and Norman (Terry) Mayne of Washington Twp; fifteen grandchildren, MaryDawn, Kathryn, Marsha, Timothy, Matthew, Eileen, Nanette, Calvin, Tracie, Angela, Chimene, Jeannie, Michael, and Toni; nine great-grandsons; twelve great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; and four great-great-granddaughters. Family will greet friends on Friday, March 4, 2011 from 4:00-8:00PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00AM at the funeral home, with Rev. Greg Ryerson officiating.
