KEMP, Vere Elizabeth, age 95, died peacefully at Hospice of Dayton after a brief illness. Her children were at her bedside. Mrs. Kemp retired from the Kettering School System in 1972 after a 27 year career as an elementary school teacher. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, she taught school there before moving to Ohio in 1942. She attended Oberlin College and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in education majoring in art. Vere was born in Bluffton, Indiana, on August 7, 1907. Mrs. Kemp was the daughter of Adelaide H. and Jess W. Lipkey. Her grandfather, Victor M. Hatfield was a well known Hoosier poet. She was a life long member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Kemp was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Kemp, brothers, James and William Lipkey and son-in-law, Richard W. Johnston. She is survived by her son, Thomas W. Kemp and his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Penelope Kemp Johnston, of Lyme, CT; grandson, Jonathan Gavin W. Johnston and his wife Sarah of Newburyport, MA; granddaughter, Rebecca Tsaloff of Kettering; 2 great grandchildren, 3 nieces and 2 nephews. The family would especially like to thank Vere's niece, Karen Mousaian for her devoted caregiving to Vere. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 16 at 10:30 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Oakwood, OH. Family will greet friends immediately following the service in the cloister. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Oakwood, OH 45419, or Hospice of Dayton, PO. Box 3509, Dayton, OH 45401-3509. Arrangements are being handled by Routsong Funeral Home.
