Vichit Phungrasamee

April 14, 1941 — June 12, 2019

Dr. Vichit Phungrasamee, known to most who knew him as “Dr. Vic”, died Wednesday, June 12, 2019 after a brief illness. A celebration of his life will be held this coming Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd in Kettering, Ohio from 2-6pm.

Vichit was born in the province of Narathiwat, Thailand. After accelerating through upper secondary school, he entered medical school. His original intent was to be a surgeon. By the end of his program, he’d decided anesthesiology was his forte. He immigrated to the United States and enjoyed a long, satisfying career in anesthesia with Good Samaritan Hospital.

In that same 40+ years, he became a father to 3 children, a son and two daughters. Fatherhood suited him well. And in the last year of his life, he got to experience being a grandfather. His grandson favors him in both appearance and sociability. With any luck, he will have his grandfather’s giving heart as well.

After retiring from medicine, he became heavily involved in the local art community. Always a lover of the arts, he took classes in drawing, painting, photoshop and videography became agile in each medium. Painting became his fascination. So many techniques, so many textures, perfecting how light danced in spaces. In the art community, Vichit found his tribe. With artists, he found like-souls who took time to appreciate beauty in all its forms. People who shared his love of discovery and creation.

Vic will be remembered as a true Renaissance man. He was well loved for his sense of humor and wit. A friend to all. Artistic. Wise. Caring. Thoughtful. Prudent. An attentive father. The most contagious laugh. Always a twinkle in his eye. A gifted gardener and landscaper. He appreciated the beauty in all situations and people. He made everything he touched better. A loyal brother and friend. Highly intelligent. Extremely intuitive. Compassionate. A good decision maker. An independent thinker. A traveller. An adventurer. A perfectionist. A respected physician. He was able to hold a diplomatic discussion. Enjoyed politics and made keen insights about people and the world. Ready and willing to help if asked. Playful. A genius prankster. A hopeless romantic with an artistic and aesthetic aura. A lover of music of all genres. A lifelong scholar who never stopped in his quest for self-betterment. Easily swept away with delight. He never lost his sense of wonder or faith in humankind.

His legacy is of love and possibilities.
