SMITH Sr., Victor W. age 90 of Centerville passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 26, 2009. Victor W. Smith was born on November 11, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio to George and Francis Smith. He attended Mount St. John Marianist Seminary and Miami Jacobs Business College. Victor initially started his work career at Standard Register Corp. where he was Secretary to the President. He later joined his father in the start-up of a family business, G.W. Smith & Sons, Inc., after WWII. Victor became the guiding entrepreneur and President. He pioneered water emulsion release agents and grew G.W. Smith & Sons Inc. business into one of the largest manufacturers of release agents to the U.S. die casting and foundry industries. Victor was instrumental in developing break-through products and services for the industry. G.W. Smith & Sons, Inc. is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. He was a member of the Church of the Incarnation since 1958. Victor served as Chairman of several Church Building Drives at Incarnation and Ascension Parishes and was highly regarded for his generosity and leadership. He was an avid golfer and past member of Sycamore Creek Country Club. Victor was a devoted husband to his wife Mary Jane of 66 years and was blessed with seven children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane; daughter, Priscilla Swab; grandsons, Joel Summers and Stuart Smith and great-granddaughter, Jessica Cook. Victor W. Smith, Sr. is survived by children: Robert W. (Carol) Smith, Victor W. (Alexa) Smith, Jr. Theresa M. (Steve) Summers, Mary M. (Michael) Higgins, Deborah E. Hempel, Christina L. Black, grandchildren: Bill (Deborah) Smith, Julie (Doug) Cook, Amber (Scott) Cohen, Josh Smith, Rachel Smith, Heidi Smith, Logan Smith, Lori (Kenny) Kelly, Becky (Jeff) Burleson, David (Angie) Summers, Ryan (Jennifer) Higgins and Kevin Higgins, Victoria Hempel, and Devin Black, great-grandchildren: Ashley Smith, Cameron Cook, Braden Cook, Ethan Cook, Madelyn Cohen and Paige Cohen, Kaity Kelly, Brianna Burleson and Alyssa Burleson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 12:30 PM at the Church of the Incarnation. Burial will immediately follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery. The Smith family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville. Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Dayton.
