KOHEN, Vincent (Vince) John, age 72 of Dayton, Ohio and Sarasota, Florida, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010 in Madrid, Spain while on vacation. Vince was born in New York City on November 8, 1937 and moved to Connecticut at the age of 11. He graduated from Manchester High School, Manchester, Connecticut, in 1956, and attended the University of Connecticut. From there he attended Morse College, Hartford, Connecticut. After moving to Dayton, Ohio, he graduated from the American Institute of Banking. He was a member of the US Army National Guard from 1960 and retired with the rank of Major in 1974. He graduated first in his class at OCS (Officers Candidate School) and was awarded the sharpshooters badge. He also served as an instructor for Officer Candidate School. His professional career started in 1956 as bookkeeper, proof operator, and teller for Manchester Trust Co, Manchester, Connecticut, as well as night manager for the Manchester Parks and Recreation Division. In 1962, he moved to Dayton, Ohio, where he would reside the rest of his life, and become a pillar of the banking and soccer community. He began working for First National Bank of Dayton, now PNC Bank, in 1962 as a management trainee, and continued on for the next 23 years, leaving in 1985 as Vice President and Branch Administrator of 39 bank branches. He then moved on and became President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Twin Valley Bank, West Alexandria, Ohio. This position involved the turnaround of the institution from defalcation to a five-star rated financial institution. He retired in 2001, after 16 years of dedicated service, and enjoyed spending time on Siesta Key in Sarasota Florida where he maintained a vacation property. He has served on the board at the Peppertree Bay Association Condominiums on Siesta Key in Florida, and was elected Treasurer in 2000, voluntarily offering his financial expertise. He was involved in many clubs and community organizations including: American Legion, President of the American Institute of Banking (Dayton Chapter), SAY (Soccer Association for Youth), NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) and was Founder and President of the United Galaxies Soccer Club in Centerville Ohio. He refereed youth soccer for many years, and as a referee for the Ohio High School Athletic Association, Vince was honored for the longest tenure amongst local high school soccer officials for a period of 35 years. Vince was also a devoted father and grandfather to his beloved family. Along with his passion for banking, he was very passionate about soccer, and in the fall of 1971 he started coaching soccer for his sons Brian and Kevin, as this dedication catapulted this simple beginning into the first select travel soccer club in southern Ohio. He positively touched the lives of thousands of youth, and his influence and teachings of the game of soccer have left an indelible mark on everyone with whom he came into contact. Vince was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Sarah Kohen, his sister Ruth Murray who raised him for many years, and his wife Vicki Brown. He is survived by his two sons, Brian and Kevin; two grand children Keely and Christian; nieces Saranne and Kathleen Murray; his companion for the past several years, Lillian Rash; and Brian and Kevin's mother Carolyn Nagy, along with countless friends.
