Vinie Astrid Jones (Alfson)

JONES, Vinie Alfson age 89 of Kettering died on Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Bethany Lutheran Village, Centerville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Axel R. Jones in 1975, and her grandson, Dr. Gregory Reichel of Toledo, Ohio in 1995. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Diane and Roland Reichel of Kettering, Ohio, Kathleen and Curtis Neumann of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Cynthia and William Jones of Wrentham, Massachusetts; six grandchildren: Dennis Reichel and wife Cheryl, Lee Reichel and wife Pam, Jeffery Stafford, Suzanne Stafford, Ericka Brandstetter, and Meredith Jones; four great-grandchildren: Andrew, Dean, Taylor, and Brandon; also, loving cousins, especially Lt Cdr Ethelyn Nelson, Ruby Henderson, and Caryl Konrady, and many loving in-laws and friends. Vinie was born in Jamestown, New York on July 12, 1912, the daughter of John Mauritz Alfson and Helfrid Larson Alfson, both originally from Sweden. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1930 and from Jamestown General Hospital as a registered nurse in 1933. Vinie and Axel were married on September 4, 1937 in Jamestown. After moving to Cleveland where they lived for 14 years, she and her family moved to Kettering in 1957. She was a registered nurse at Miami Valley Hospital and retired in 1975. She then was a nurse at Trinity Home for several years. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering since 1958 where she was active in Grace Fellowship and Discipleship Studies. She was also a member of the American Nurses Association. Vinie was an amateur artist and several of her paintings were displayed in the Little Gallery at Christ United Methodist Church during Feb 2002. A memorial service to celebrate Vinie's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Road, Kettering, Ohio, Pastor Victoria Downing officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until time of service. Vinie's family would like to thank the caring staff at Bethany Lutheran Village and especially for the loving care and support from the staff of the Linden House Cascade Unit where she lived for the last five years.
