Violet Florence Gebhart

GEBHART, Violet Florence (Rieck) passed away peacefully on August 1, 2006 at her home in Columbus, Ohio. Florence was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was born to Florence and Edward Rieck on April 29, 1909 in Dayton, Ohio. In 1928 she graduated from Stivers High School. She attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin , and graduated from Miami University in 1932 with a degree in Business Administration. In 1935 she married Norman L. Gebhart in Dayton, where they lived their entire married lives. Florence was active in the Women’s Philharmonic of Dayton, the YWCA and on the board of Oakwood YMCA. She was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, First Baptist Church, Chapter CI of P.E.O. sisterhood, Dayton Women’s Club, and Dayton Women’s College Club, and was active in school and church activities. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Everett Edward Rieck, and her husband, Norman, in 2000. She is survived by sons, Dr. Don E. (Barbara) of Columbus, OH; and Dr. Robert N. (Leslie) of Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren; Courtney (Jared) Chandler, Laurel (fiancée David Johnson) Gebhart, Craig (Polly) Gebhart, Kristi (Matt) Doyle and Robert (Christi) Gebhart, and 6 great grandchildren. Special thanks and appreciation go to caregivers Nancy, Roberta, Connie, Linda, Barbara, Anna, and Betty, and to HomeReach Hospice at Riverside for their loving and compassionate care during Florence’s illness. Friends may call Friday August 4, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Avenue in Dayton. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Dayton, 111 W. Monument, Dayton, OH.
