GULINO, Virgil Salvatore, age 94, of Kettering, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
Virgil was born to the late Joseph and Josephine (nee Bertolino) Gulino on December 14, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY. He served his country as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force serving during WWII and the Korean War, receiving many awards. As a Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer he retired from WPAFB, Engineer Director. During his career he was chief Avionic Engineer directing the complex development of the electronic systems of missiles and night bombing aircraft (B-57G). He also developed their new inter service crew member survival personal radio/beacon (which establishes ground pilot location). He participated in many activities including ushering for the Dayton Theater Performances and avidly pursued table tennis and golf.
He was preceded in death by wife, Jane M. Gulino; daughter, Denise; and sister, Yvonne Paganello. Virgil is survived by daughters, Karen (David) Gunning and Diane Budi; son, Ron (Donna) Gulino; grandchildren, Justin (Cassie) and Jonathan Gunning, Matthew Budi, Brennan and Kendra Gulino; and great grandson, Brooks.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 10, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike Centerville, OH 45459. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
