Virginia Havens Korns

age 81, of Kettering, wife of Richard Korns, passed away on November 30, 2003. Virginia was born March 27, 1922, in Denver, CO. At age 6 weeks, she moved to Greencastle, IN, where she was raised and schooled. After high school graduation, Virginia returned to Colorado, where she attended Colorado College for 2 1/2 years. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After the onset of World War II, Virginia was selected to be a 'Curtiss Wright Cadette', training at University of Minnesota, and then sent to Curtiss Wright in Columbus, OH to work in the armament design group. Here she met her mate for life, Richard, and they moved to Dayton, OH, where they raised four children and she lived the rest of her life. After child rearing, she became an avid genealogist, tracking her ancestors back to 1650. Virginia spent much of her time researching and computerizing Richard’s and her family genealogy. She was a member of the Celebration of Life Church in Kettering, OH. Preceded in death by parents, Irene Parker Havens and Charles Beamer Havens. Survived by her husband and best friend of 58 years, Richard; sister, Martha Hosman; sister-in-law, Lucy Korns Helker; four children, Douglas Havens Korns (Jeanne) of San Jose, CA, Nancy Korns Bogart (Don) of Southlake, TX, Carol Korns Cassone (Rocco) of Orangeburg, SC, and David Allen Korns (Mary) of Leander, TX; and eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Korns, Kevin Bogart, Carrie Bogart, Emily Davis, Kate Cassone, Rocco Cassone, Christopher Korns and Shawn Korns. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
