passed away Tuesday, January 16, in Marietta, Ohio. Bernard was born March 25, 1907 in Enterprise, West Virginia, to Walter O. Bice and Dona Tetrick Bice. Bernard was the second eldest of five sons, Evan, Donald, George, Robert; and one daughter, Shirla Bice Richardson. Bernard married Ireta Elizabeth Riley Bice, who preceded him in death June, 1997. They would have been married 65 years August 10, 1997. Bernard is survived by one daughter, Sue Brantley Smith (C. Aubrey) of Austin, Texas, and one son, Dr. W. Bernard Bice (Karen Edge Bice) of Vienna, West Virginia. Seven grandchildren: Becky Brantley McCamey, Charles P. Brantley, Shayne Brantley, Beth Brantley Strifler, Kimberly Bice Daggett, Amy Bice O'Neill, and Benjamin Bice, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Bernard is survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friends. During his life, Bernie was active in the Lion's Club; was a volunteer fireman in Shinnston, W. Virginia; and co-owned Bice's Greenhouses in Enterprise, W. Virginia. Bernard and Ireta moved to Ohio in the early 1960's. ''Bernie'' was a manager at Siebenthaler's Nursery until his retirement, but worked part time into his 80's helping out in the spring and summer with advice and counsel to many local gardeners. After retirement, Bernie pursued the art of woodcarving. Both Ireta and Bernie were artisans and became proficient in carving and painting birds. Their work has been shared with many throughout the United States. Bernie and Ireta were one of the founding families of the Centerville Church of Christ, where he was a deacon for many years. They also attended the Belmont Church of Christ, and were well known and loved throughout the Church community. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Midwestern Children's Home, P.O. Box 48, Pleasant Plain, OH 45162-9987, or to Ohio Valley College, 1 Campus View Drive, Vienna, WV 26105-8000. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 A.M. in the Routsong Funeral Home in Centerville. The family will greet friends on Friday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Services will be conducted by Tim Nowlin, Minister, Belmont Church of Christ and Grady Troute, Elder, Centerville Church of Christ. Burial will be in Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
