Walter E Moline

MOLINE, Walter Edward, age 90 of Kettering, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Kettering Memorial Hospital. Walter was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kettering, Ohio and previously a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Dayton, Ohio. Walter was born June 7, 1916 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, son to the late Anna and Edward Moline, both of whom immigrated to the USA from Sweden. He received a Chemical Engineering Degree from the University of Michigan and worked at NCR for 43 years before retiring in 1981. Walter was the Manager of the Plating and Coatings Department at NCR, where he was responsible for all finishes on NCR cash registers. He held several dozen patents for coatings and plating finishes that were developed while working at NCR. Walter and family often went to NCR's Old River Park to enjoy swimming, picnics, watching softball games and fireworks on the 4th of July. Walter's hobbies were tomato gardening and playing bridge. Walter was known as one of the best bridge players in the area. Walter was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, Alyce; daughter Carolyn Moline Gates; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by son Bruce Moline and daughter-in-law Becky Walther Moline of NC; son Dale Moline and daughter-in-law Natalie Barone Moline of Malaysia; son-in-law John Phillip Gates of OH; seven grandchildren (Doug, Molly, Maggie, Pamela, Edward, Greg, five great-grandchildren (Mia, Becca, Patrick, Morgan, Caroline); brother and his wife Arthur & Alice Moline of WI; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his second wife of 26 years, Helen and her children Nancy Sowder of OH and Bob Machael of CA. A funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday October 14, 2006 at Good Shepherd Lutheran church with Rev. Thomas Prochaska officiating. Burial will be in David's Cemetery, Kettering, Ohio.
