Von Gruenigen, Walter Frederick, Fred, age 88, of Kettering passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017. He was a graduate of Corbin High School (Kentucky) and received his BA and MA from the University of Kentucky. He also completed post graduate work at the Cincinnati and Cleveland Institutes of Art. He was an accomplished painter, art coordinator and teacher in both Miamisburg and Kettering City Schools for many years. He was a Kettering Chester A. Roush Educational Hall of Fame Recipient. In addition, he served in the U.S Army and was a civil rights worker in the south in the 1960s. He served in a leadership capacity at Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ; Kettering Art Council and Optimist Club of Dor-Wood. He was a devoted family man who loved fishing and hunting, playing golf and his friends. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Elise Blair von Gruenigen; son, Robert Blair, Bob daughters Carol Jean and Vivian Elise; his grandchildren Jessica, Dominic and Elise; and his great grandchildren Grimm and Rose. The family would like to express our thanks for the love and support of family, friends and Hospice of Dayton during Freds illness. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 1200 Forrer Boulevard, Kettering, Ohio 45420 or Hospice of Dayton.
