KIRBY, Wayne E., age 90, passed away August 20, 2015 at Laurelwood Senior Living. He was born in Cherokee, OK in 1925 to parents, Pearl and Jack T. Kirby.
Wayne enlisted in 1943 in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, serving in European theatre as a tail gunner in B-24 bombers. In 1947 he qualified at the Air Force Fire-Fighter Training School following that career thru Korean conflict and 2 Vietnam deployments. He retired the Air Force as Chief Master Sargent in 1974.
He was employed by Ohio as a Deputy State Fire Marshall for 17 years serving counties in SW Ohio. He volunteered at the Air Force Museum, Wright-Pat Medical Center and Kettering Lathrem Senior Center. He was a member of Tokyo Masonic Lodge, Tokyo, Japan and Antioch Shrine.
He is survived by wife, Jean, whom he met at Mt. Fuji, Japan. They married in Tokyo in 1955. Also survived by sons, Scott (Beth) and Jeff (Crystie); a sister, Betty; brothers Robert and Jack; and grandchildren, Steven, Leah, Kevin and Riley. Predeceased by siblings, James, John and RosaLee.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Ave, Kettering with a memorial service following at 11:00am.
