Vollrath, Werner W., age 90, of Kettering passed away Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Kettering Memorial Hospital. Werner was born in Cleveland, OH on August 25, 1914 to the late William Peter and Catherine (Bischof) Vollrath. He was a 1938 graduate of Ohio State University with a B.E.E.; an avid Buckeye Fan; life member of I.E.E.E.; Registered Ohio Professional Engineer. Werner was a Charter Member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church and served as chairman of Congregation and Property Committees and Financial Secretary; Charter Member on committee for incorporating Van Buren Twp. as Kettering, OH; Kettering Charter Commission and Kettering Civil Service Commission for 21 years; Kettering Volunteer Fire Co. # 5 for 15 years; 1980 Kettering Volunteer Citizen of the Year; active with the Boy Scout Troop 436 and Campfire Girls for many years. When Rural Electrification started, he was employed by United Rural Electric Cop, Hardin Co., Kenton, OH to design the electrical distribution system. Werner entered Civil Service in 1940, Army Signal Corps at Wright Field, Dayton, OH. After 29 years he retired from Aeronautical Systems Division, WPAFB, 1969. He was a WW II and Korean Conflict veteran and discharged as a Captain from the Airforce. Werner was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Evangelyn E. “ Nickie” (Nicol) Vollrath; brother Victor Vollrath and sister Renata Lorenz. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth J.and Kathleen A. Vollrath of Centerville, OH, Melinda S. Wilson of Swanton, OH; 3 grandsons and their wives, Peter and Jill Wilson of Luckey, OH, Anthony (Tony) and Kelly Wilson of Cincinnati, OH and Kevin and Lindsey Vollrath of Erlanger, KY; 2 great grandchildren, Avery and Madeline Wilson of Luckey, OH; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday July 12, 2005 with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 901 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, with Pastor Thomas Prochaska officiating. Burial to follow at Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may also call from 5-8 PM, Monday, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or charity of one’s choice.
