William "Bill" Joseph Devito

November 18, 1952 — July 17, 2015

DeVITO, William "Bill" Joseph, age 62, of Centerville, OH, departed peacefully on July 17, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bronx, New York to his wonderful parents, Vito and Grace (nee Rizzo), who preceded him in death. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years and best friend, Margie, his cherished children, Ginny (Matt Strack), Andy (Noelle Collis) Liz (Patrick Sicotte), Mary (fianc Jens Quester), and John, as well as his adorable grandchildren, Ava, Ella, Andrew, and soon-to-arrive Greta DeVito and Paul Sicotte. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Barbara DeVito, Linda DeMatteis and Jeanne (Vinny) Firsching and many other family members, friends and co-workers. Bill retired from MetLife as an AVP of Corporate Real Estate after 40 years of service. He loved his work, but mostly the people with whom he worked. Through the years he was also very involved in the life of his church, St. Francis of Assisi, as a Eucharistic minister, youth group assistant and teacher, founder of the Senior High youth group mulch sale and "Mulch Man" for 20 years, member of the Parish Advisory Council, member of prayer group and Life in the Spirit Seminar leader, as well as a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. He was also a participant in the 6:30 morning Mass group at Incarnation Church for 30 years and met so many loving and prayerful people there. In spite of all these commitments, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his children and grandchildren at all of their events. Bill loved the outdoors, enjoying hiking with the family and was a pro at skipping stones. He worked to create a wildlife preserve in his backyard and succeeded in growing many native plants attracting different birds and animals. Bill enjoyed riding bikes with Margie and playing games with the kids. Bill was loved and respected by all who met him because he always put others first and saw the good in everyone. His wisdom was a gift to those around him, both at home and at work, where they called him "Nostradamus" for his ability to always make the right decisions. Bill had a great talent for storytelling, and could make you feel like you were there as he recounted his childhood adventures or everyday life events. His sense of humor and his smile will be greatly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be performed on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:30am at St. Francis, 6245 Wilmington Pike Dayton, OH with a wake at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd.
