BOWMAN, William Preston “Bill”, age 91, of Kettering, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019. Born May 9, 1928 in Dayton, OH, to the late Worley and Helen Bowman, Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Charlotte R. (Roetter); 3 daughters, Pam (Roger) Bauser, Judy (Steve) Mulkey, Amy (Ralph) Phillips; 6 grandchildren, P.J. (Nora) Bauser, Kim (Brendan) McBrien, David (Amanda) Bauser, Andrew (Katie) Mulkey, Madeline Mulkey, Emily Mulkey; 3 great-grandchildren, Sophia and William Bauser and Maggie McBrien; son-in-law Klif (Teresa) Hodgkin and a sister-in-law, Nancy Roetter. His daughter, Laura Hodgkin, preceded him in death. Bill was a devoted family man who adored his wife, children and grandchildren.
Bill was a life-long Daytonian, lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local No. 101-473, member of The American Legion Kettering Post 598, and member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served on several committees. Bill served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a talented musician earning his Master’s Degree from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. In addition to contributing to the woodwind section of orchestras, bands, and ensembles in the area, Bill entertained with his Boogie-woogie piano playing. Bill developed the band & orchestra department at Roetter Music, Inc. where he worked from 1953 until it closed in 1980.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Saturday July 24 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 901 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Family will greet friends following the service until 12:30pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
