HILBERT, William F. "Gov", age 88, previously of Dayton passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013.
He was born on August 19, 1924 in Springfield, OH to the late Charles and Helen Hilbert. Gov retired after many years of dedicated service at Martin Electric where he was a sales person. He earned his nickname the "Gov" because he resembled Gov. Lausche and he was so well known in Dayton. Gov worked as a scout for UD Basketball for Coach Tom Blackburn and announced games at the Polo Field. Gov also announced for the Dayton Gems Hockey Team and the NBA team Cincinnati Royals.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Catherine Marmion, Helen Lapins and Louise Ann King; and brother, Charles "Dutch" Hilbert and his twin brother John F. Hilbert. Gov is survived by his brother, Joseph Hilbert; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Holy Angels Parish, 1322 Brown St., Dayton. Family will greet friends one hour before the service from 9:00-10:00am. A gathering of family and friends will follow the service from 11:30am-2:30pm at Govy's favorite watering hole, Kramer's Bar in Dayton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
