William L. Mcdermid

McDermid, William L, age 87, of Centerville, formerly of Canton, NY, died December 21, 2005. Bill was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Candor F& AM # 411, Shriner, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE)-senior life member, Sigma Phi Sigma-National Honorary Physics Society, Gamma Sigma Epsilon-National Honorary Chemistry Society and Sigma Xi-National Honorary Research Fraternity. He graduated from St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY with a BS in Mathematics in 1939, graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY with a BS in Physics and a MS in Physics in 1948. Served in the United States Navy Reserve as a Navigation Officer/Instructor from Nov. 1942 to March 1946. He was a Research and Development Engineer for RCA, IBM, and NCR in the field of nuclear instrumentation and digital technology; author of several patents in the field of memory correlation generators and adaptive systems. Preceded in death by his parents, Milan H. and Anna M. McDermid, 2 brothers, Myron A. and Millan H, II sister, Mary Elizabeth Stowell. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Isabelle “Peachy” ; 2 daughters & sons-in-law; Jeanne M. (Woods) Brown of Philadelphia, PA, and Mary (Steven) Swift of Lambertville, MI; 2 sons and daughter-in-law, William L.(Elizabeth) of Soldotna, AK and Gary R. of Ludlow Falls, OH; 6 grandchildren, Woods R.(Lois) Brown of Newport, RI, Karyn (Kenneth) Grubbs of Lexington, KY, Amy N. Swift and Andrew Jonathan Swift both of Lambertville, MI, William L. McDermid, III of Soldotna, AK and Brianne E. McDermid of Soldotna, AK; 3 great-grandchildren, Caty Jane Brown, Clare Rebecca Brown and Woods Reese Brown; Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, December 28th at the Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Road, Kettering, Ohio with Dr.Rev. Barry DeShetler, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday at the Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main Street, Centerville, Ohio. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Candor, NY.
