William M. Cromer

CROMER, William M., age 96, of Kettering, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. He was born in Oakwood on December 22, 1918 to the late Howard and Lura Cromer. William was a 1936 graduate of Piqua High School and a 1940 graduate of Bowling Green State University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and was active in drama and debate. In 1948, he graduated from the Ohio State University College of Law where he was an editor of the Ohio State Law Journal and President of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. William served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1946 and was in the North African and European Theaters, was awarded the bronze Star, three Battle Stars, and was discharged as an Artillery Major. He had been a practicing attorney in the Dayton area for about 55 years and was a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, being annual convention chairman in 1967, the Dayton Bar Association of which he was its President in 1974-1975, Dayton Bicycle Club, John W. Durst Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Antioch Shrine where he sang a number of years with the Shrine Chanters, former member of the Board of Directors of the Dayton Opera Association and attended Southern Hills United Methodist Church. William was preceded in death by Eleanor Bryan Cromer, his wife of more than 64 years, daughter, Amy Cromer, sister, Virginia G. Evans and nephew, William Middleton Evans. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Delorenzo of Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Barbara (John Wincek) Cromer of Cleveland, OH, and Susan Cromer of Dayton, OH; granddaughters, Ann Delorenzo of New Orleans, LA and Nora May Cromer of Columbus, OH; a niece, Kitty (Bob) Evans Niebuhr of Auburn, AL; great-niece, Jennifer (Bill) Cleveland of Auburn, AL and great-nephew, Jeffrey (Jackie) Niebuhr of Atlanta, GA. Family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with a funeral service following at 7:00pm. A private burial will be held in Fletcher Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Residence Home Association, 3661 Salem Ave., Dayton, OH 45406.
