William Tully

William Tully, 77, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2015 after fighting Alzheimer's Disease for a number of years. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Claire (Mortimer) Tully, 3 wonderful children, Doug (Bend, Oregon), Shannon (Chicago, IL) and Dan and wife Shawn (Cincinnati, OH) and his cherished grandchildren Mary, Charlie, Katie, Allie and Annie Tully, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his dear brother Dr. John Tully. He was born in NYC to John and Helen Tully, also predeceased, who both immigrated to the US from Ireland. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical HS and Manhattan College, where he was a member of the orchestra, having studied trumpet with Sammy Spear, noted band director of The Jackie Gleason Show. Later he earned an MBA from the University of Dayton. Upon college/ROTC graduation, Bill was assigned to Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he continued as a civilian working in the C-5 SPO and then the multi-national F-16 SPO until his retirement as Assistant Program Director. His second career was in real estate with Paragon Realtors. During his semi-retirement, Bill and Claire enjoyed traveling to NYC/Upper West Side, spending many happy weekends filled with the best music, arts, restaurants and walks in Central Park. They took a memorable trip to Ireland, where Bill was able to trace his ancestry in County Galway. He proudly flew his Irish flag each year on St. Patrick's Day. Bill was an active member of the community, having served on the Oakwood YMCA Board, city Environmental and Planning Committees, and the Oakwood Rotary. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Dayton Area Board of Realtors, and was a commissioner on Montgomery County Veteran's Commission Board. He would give the world for his family and friends and will always be remembered as a sweet man with a big heart, willing to help with anything at any time for anyone, absolutely. Although Alzheimer's took most of his memory, the one thing he could clearly remember was his undeniable love for his family. Love love.
