William Vincent Boice

BOICE, William Vincent, "Bill," age 82, passed away from cancer on Thursday January 27, 2011 at Hospice of Dayton. He lived in Washington Township. Bill was born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 14, 1929, toWilliam Burlin Boice and Ruth Geer Boice. He graduated from Toledo Scott High School in 1947. He then attended the University of Toledo where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega, a national service fraternity, and graduated from Miami University in 1952. He was a photographer for the Miami University Yearbook, Recensio. Bill served in Yokohama, Japan, during the Korean War from 1952-54. He was a sales engineer for Boice-Crane Company in Toledo and later as a sales representative for Ferguson Machine Company, St. Louis, MO, before retiring in 1984. Bill's passions included sailing a 30-foot Knarr, "Frisken," on Lake Erie and later an M-20 on Kiser Lake. He also built and sailed iceboats on Maumee Bay. After retirement he built and flew numerous model airplanes and helped dozens of children learn the craft through the Christ United Methodist Church model airplane program. On Thursdays he flew "old timer" model planes with friends in the W.O.R.K.S. Club. Bill served on the Board of Directors for Toledo YMCA Storer Camps in Michigan and Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering, where he was a long-time member of the church. Bill was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother David Boice, sister Gratia Smith and daughter Ruth Boice Oake. William is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Hibbert Boice; son Tom Boice (Sue), Xenia, Ohio; daughter Dr. Judith Boice, Montrose, CO; and grandsons Bill, Christopher, Sebastian, and Vincent; brother-in-law Fred Hibbert (Mary Dell), Toledo, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Family visitation will be from 11:00AM-Noon on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main Street, Centerville with a memorial service at Noon with Rev. Barry DeShetler officiating. Lunch will be served after the service.
