Willliam D. Wolf

WOLF, William D., age 88, formerly of Kettering and Oakwood passed away Saturday, December 11, 2004 at Laurelwood Assisted Living. William was born August 22, 1916 in Terre Haute, IN. He served in WWII for 5 years first as a Lt. in the Army Corps of Engineers, where he built the first paved road on Maui, Hawaii that still exists today. Then he was chosen by the OSS, the precursor to the CIA, where he worked with the Underwater Demolition Team mapping the Philippine Islands. He graduated from Rose Poly Technical Institute with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and a MS in Chemical Engineering. William was a brilliant scientist. He retired from Monsanto Plastics after 30 years of service where he invented the process, machinery and product for the first plastic wall paper that was placed in “The House of the Future” in Disneyland when it first opened. He developed the first plastic Coke bottle and at the height of his career he was averaging approximately 16 patents a year for Monsanto. Among his hobbies, William enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, woodworking, art work, building furniture, etc. He could fix or repair anything. After retirement he learned to play the organ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marcella (Mars) Wolf; son, John W. Wolf; daughter, Pamela J. Wolf; and grandson, Derek Duke. William is survived by one daughter, Jennifer A. Wolf-Mears; 4 grandchildren, Heather, Elisa and William Wolf II, and Wendy Brandilynn (Duke) Michael, and husband, Steven; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Michael and Steven Michael. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday at the Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville, with Rev. Brooks Heck officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial in Terre Haute, IN. In memory of William, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3797 Summit Glen Dr., Ste. 100, Dayton, OH 45449.
