Wladimiro Calarese

CALARESE Wladimiro, age 74, of Spring Valley, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2005 at Laurelwood Assisted Living. He was born in Messina, Sicily to Giovanni and Rosalia Calarese. Wladimiro obtained his Ph.D. from New York University. Wladimiro worked for the American Government for 34 years, 25 of which were spent at Wright Pat Air Force base. He made many contributions to scientific research and acted as Chief Scientist at the end of his career. He published over 100 scientific publications internationally. He was a four time Olympic medalist (2 bronze, 2 silver), and World Champion (gold) in fencing representing Italy. Wladimiro coached fencing at Wright State University for several years beginning in 1974. Wladimiro was a beloved father, brother, husband, uncle, coach, teacher, and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Mia Calarese; sister; Wanda Calarese of Rome, Italy and former wife, Barbara Dirr of West Alexandria, OH. A funeral service will be held Monday August 22, 2005 at 1:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Family will receive friends Monday from 11-1:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In memory of Wladimiro, contributions may be made to SICSA, 2600 Wilmington Pike, Kettering, OH 45419.
