Zach Deen

(David M. Deen, II), age 12, of Kettering, son of Rickie and Bill Beatty, passed away peacefully at home while fighting a courageous battle with brain cancer, on April 9th, 2003, at 11:43 PM, Wednesday. He was a student in the 6th grade at Kettering Middle School and attended the Parkview Church of the Nazarene. Zach was employed at Mavericks where he had a special interest in 'Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh' cards. He was nominated a 'Young Hero' by the Wright Patterson Young Hero's Association. Preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Hembree-Deen. Survived by his loving uncle, Chris Hembree; maternal grandparents, Leslie and Dorothy Mathews of Clarksville, TN and Joyce Beatty of Dayton; great aunts and great uncles, Jackie and Darry Winfree of Adams, TN, Debbie and Larry Gupton of Ashland City, TN, Donna and Wesley Haden of Clarksville, TN, Mike and Deborah Beatty of Springville, AL, Sue Cannon of Springville, AL; paternal grandparents, Stephanie Steeley and Tom Deen of Kettering; great grandmother, Margaret Robins of Eustis, FL; aunt and uncle, Lori and Bob Deen of Kettering. He had a special relationship with all his cousins and very best friend, Shane Carl, along with special friends, Theresa and Justin. Thanks and deep appreciation is extended to everyone fortunate enough to know him, especially the HEMOC Dept., Dr. Emmit Broxon, nurses, therapists and social workers at Children's Medical Center and Children's Home Health Care/Comfort Care. Also, teachers, principals and staff at Indian Riffle Elementary and Kettering Middle School. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM, Monday, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, with Pastor Timothy Gocha officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 - 7:00 PM, Monday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Children's Medical Center, Dept. of Hematology / Oncology, One Children's Plaza, Dayton, Ohio 45404.
